Cartoonist and comic book artist Annie Erskine was watching The Little Mermaid on evening when she suddenly wondered what King Triton would look like without his beard

So the 24-year-old from Bowling Green, Kentucky, who works as a freelance graphic designer for The Cartoon Network, set about 'shaving him'

The response Miss Erskine received from friends was so great that she decided to de-beard other beloved Disney characters, and quickly created a collection of hairless leading men -- including Zeus from Hercules

Using Photoshop and a Wacom Intuos 4 tablet, it took Miss Erskine up to 45minutes to complete each image -- 'depending on the complexity of the beard'

Rather than sending a complex message about Disney and its male characters, Miss Erskine said she simply wanted to 'make people smile' with her illustrations

'Honestly, as a cartoonist myself, sometimes it's more fun to exaggerate proportions. I was just hoping to convey laughter. . . I wanted people to get a kick out of something,' she said

No wizard would be complete without a long white beard. . .

So Miss Erskine gave Merlin from The Sword in the Stone the clean shaven Photoshop treatment

Mulan's Emperor is the wisest character in all of China, living in a vast palace the size of a small city with his long white beard

Beardless, does the The Emperor look as wise?

For Aladdin's The Sultan, the ruler of Agrabah and the father of Princess Jasmine, his thick white beard is a defining feature

Without a beard The Sultan's face looks abnormally small next to his elaborate robe and turban

Miss Erskine also played with adding beards to clean shaven Disney characters, inlcuding prince Phillip from Sleeping Beauty

But does Miss Erskine's bearded version of Prince Phillip dramatically change how we see his character?

The Beauty and the Beast's antagonist Gaston is known for pea-sized brain and chiseled features

Miss Erskine decided to see what he would look like with course black facial hair instead

Aladdin is just 18 years old in the original Disney film of his name, so a lack of facial hair makes sense for his character

Miss Erskine added a shaggy black beard to match Aladdin's tousled hair
